Super Powers and Stuff

This one took longer to write than I thought because after I started to write it I realized that I picked the animal that I would want to be based on my desire to have said super power. Let's face it guys, I really just want to be able to fly. So, I didn't really want to write a whole post again about how I love flying and wish I could just soar over the tree tops and visit friends and family all over the world. Though, if you guys really, really want it I'd be glad to do it.

So, instead I've decide to write about what's been on my mind lately.

1. I watched this move by Tyler Perry called Why Did I get Married Too? In classic Tyler Perry fashion he went from wonderfully hilarious to awfully sad in the span of 2 hours. Like, I bawled my little eyes out after laughing my little heart out. Rob looked over at me in the midst my my cry fest and said, "What's wrong?" (To clarify I was watching it with headphones on and he was watching Stargate) I couldn't even talk I was so upset. But! The point of this ramble is that the couples in the movie did something every year that I thought was awesome. Every year they got together and at a campfire each couple stood up and said why they got married to their spouse, what drew them together and what's kept them together. I thought this was such a good idea! It's always good to remind yourselves and others why you fell in love and why you're still in love. I think I might be proposing this idea for next July.

2. Everyone always says it as a joke but in all seriousness communication is key. But not just any communication, GOOD communication. I mean both in that it is effective and that it is positive. Not that everything you say is happy but that everything you say can be used to build someone up rather than tear them down, constructive criticism friends, coming from a place of love.

3. Speaking of love, I love chinchillas. Have you met ours?
I know, you just fell in love too.
4. I love school, I don't love dissecting myself again though. Any other counselling majors feel me on this one?

5. I really, really, really like pizza. Which kind of goes against the fact that I'm trying to eat healthier now. Bah humbug!

6. Christmas is coming the goose is getting fat!

7. I love babies. I'd love one right now. Except not really, except kinda, not, maybe. Ha!

8. I want to go on a road trip. I can't decide which coast. I want to see some mountains, but I also really want some salt water taffy and to be in P.E.I. Though I don't want to pay gas prices. Maybe we'll take a motorcycle trip. Oh man, that would be an uncomfortable adventure.

9. Harry Potter makes me smile. Especially the cast of the movies. They do funny interviews. You should look it up sometime...

10. I love date nights. Tonight will consist of a walk to get wine/beer, drinking of wine/beer (in moderation, we gots a BUDGET y'all and we don't believe in getting drunk), dreaming of the future, and reading LOTR. Hurray for Alysha-cannot-think-of-anything-creative-date-night. Two weeks ago we did a Being a Child Again date night and last week we did a dinner out for Burgers and fries and than a two hour walk because of the burger and fries. Tonight is Dreaming Night. Yippie!

A Letter Reflecting on Unity

Dear brothers and sisters, I implore us to seek unity with one another, just as John encouraged us to do through his letters to the early church. Let us not be pulled apart by disagreements that lead to hate and division. Can we show the world what it looks like to disagree with love? Can we show what it looks like to have differences but be united because we have something so incredible connecting us that we can’t be pulled apart? We all have this one major, amazing, life changing thing in common, not only with each other in the church but with those outside the church. We are loved by God, who provides and cares for us so deeply. Within the church we recognize the need we have for God, not only for salvation but for true and abiding hope, for unshakable peace and unspeakable joy. We know as a church family that the only reason we can stand before a loving, perfect, Holy God is because Christ stands besides us and reminds God that we have been pardoned because of His sacrifice. ...

Day 6- Passages that have Impacted/Encouraged Me

I have to try really hard not to begin these posts with "so". Apparently, that is my go to starter word...which is odd but true. I skipped yesterday due to the cold that was taking each member of our house captive one by one. Why is it never all at once? Sometimes this feels it would be easier than this long, drawn out affair we have been experiencing. Our youngest has had a fever for the past two days and while at first she handled it like a champ she, like all of us, only had so much to give before she just decided the whole being sick things sucks and is now over it. Anyway, I skipped yesterday and considered skipping today as well but then I felt like I wasn't really challenging myself then. So this might be another lighter post but the point was for me to write every day not write something groundbreaking every day (or ever!). So, when I looked at my list of things one that stuck out to me was Bible verses that have impacted me. I think that even if you aren't a...

Day 3- Vulnerable Parenting

This post is being written much later than I would like but it will have to do...I know I'll be able to get it done in time to post and that's really what I'm aiming for. I had been looking through my list of blog topics and having a hard time with one that I felt I connected with and could easily write about in a shorter time frame.  As I looked through the list with my sleeping daughter laying heavily on my arm I realized the one that was probably most appropriate for my day and the one that would challenge me to really be vulnerable and open...and that's vulnerable parenting.  This idea has two pieces to me...how am I a vulnerable parent to my children and how am I a vulnerable about my parenting or my experience parenting with other people.  Today...this week...okay the last three months in particular have been a bit rough in the parenting department. With my eldest back at school my middle one lost his best friend and playmate. That paired with a kid who really...
